RXBAR vs Larabar vs KIND Bar: What the Labels Show

RXBAR, Larabar and KIND all sell a bar with a short ingredient list, and shoppers often search them against each other. They are built differently. On the brands’ own pages, RXBAR Chocolate Sea Salt is dates plus egg whites and nuts, Larabar Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip is dates, peanuts and chocolate chips, and KIND Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt is almonds and peanuts with chicory root fiber, honey and syrups. This comparison lines up the three flavors we carry on their ingredient lists and Nutrition Facts panels. If you want the rules behind each panel line first, our protein bar label guide walks through them.

How we wrote this: the numbers come from the Nutrition Facts text on the RXBAR Chocolate Sea Salt page, the Larabar Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip page and the KIND Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt page, read in October 2026. We have not tested these bars. The panel on your wrapper may differ from the brand page, and this is not diet or medical advice.

The three bars at a glance

  • RXBAR Chocolate Sea Salt (52 g bar). RXBAR describes the recipe as “egg whites for protein, dates to bind and nuts for texture”. The list has eight ingredients: dates, egg whites, cashews, almonds, chocolate, cocoa, natural flavors and sea salt. For what “natural flavors” means on a label, see natural flavors vs artificial flavors.
  • Larabar Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip (45 g bar). The Larabar page headline reads “Just 4 ingredients”: dates, peanuts, semisweet chocolate chips (unsweetened chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter, vanilla extract) and sea salt.
  • KIND Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt (40 g bar). KIND lists fourteen ingredients, led by almonds, peanuts, chicory root fiber and honey.

Nutrition Facts side by side

Each column is one bar, as the brand page lists it.

The bars are different sizes, so per-bar numbers are not a like-for-like match. By our arithmetic, per 100 g of bar, protein is about 23 g for RXBAR, 11 g for Larabar and 15 g for KIND. Fiber is about 9.6 g, 6.7 g and 17.5 g. Added sugars are 0 g, about 8.9 g and 10 g. These are not figures the brands print. Panels round most lines to the nearest gram under the FDA labeling rule, 21 CFR 101.9, so a 1 g gap is within rounding.

One note on KIND: its product description ends with “*Contains 14g of fat per bar”, while the panel on the same page lists 15 g of total fat. We use the panel figure in the table and make no call on which is current.

What holds each bar together

  • RXBAR: dates, with egg whites for protein. RXBAR says dates are there “to bind” and egg whites “for protein”. Egg whites are the second ingredient, and RXBAR lists 12 g of protein, the most of the three per bar.
  • Larabar: dates. Dates are the first of four ingredients, followed by peanuts. There is no egg, syrup or isolated fiber in the list.
  • KIND: nuts first, no dates. After almonds and peanuts, KIND lists chicory root fiber, honey, palm kernel oil, cane sugar and glucose syrup. KIND’s page does not say which ingredient binds the bar, so we do not name one.

Sugars: total vs added

RXBAR lists 14 g of total sugars and 0 g of added sugars. No sugar or syrup appears in its ingredient list, so the 14 g counts as sugars from the ingredients, mainly the dates. Larabar lists 17 g of total sugars and 4 g added, and the only added sugar in its list is the sugar inside the chocolate chips. KIND lists 5 g of total sugars and 4 g added, with 0 g of sugar alcohol, and its list includes honey, cane sugar and glucose syrup.

So the bar with 0 g of added sugars still lists 14 g of total sugars, and the bar with the lowest total sugars lists added sugars. Read both lines. Our protein bar label guide explains why sugar from dates counts toward total sugars but not added sugars.

Protein and fiber

Per bar, RXBAR lists 12 g of protein, KIND 6 g and Larabar 5 g. The RXBAR panel shows 20% Daily Value for that protein, and the label guide linked above explains why that percent is lower than 12 divided by 50. Larabar sells this bar as a fruit and nut bar, not a protein bar. Larabar also sells a separate protein line, which we do not carry, so its figures are not in our record.

For fiber the order flips. KIND lists 7 g, with chicory root fiber as its third ingredient. RXBAR lists 5 g and Larabar 3 g, and neither list has an isolated fiber ingredient.

Diet and allergen labels, in each brand’s words

These are the claims and allergen lines each brand prints on the product page we read. We do not add claims of our own.

  • RXBAR. RXBAR’s page says the bar contains eggs, cashews and almonds, and “may contain peanuts, other tree nuts and milk”. The RXBAR page we read does not print a gluten-free, vegan or kosher claim for this flavor, so those are not in our record from the brand.
  • Larabar. Larabar’s page lists this flavor as kosher, plant based, dairy free, vegan, non-GMO and gluten free, and says the chocolate chips are Fair Trade Certified. Peanuts are the second ingredient. A facility or “may contain” line is not on the page we read, so it is not in our record.
  • KIND. KIND’s page says the bar is gluten free and “made without genetically engineered ingredients”. Its allergen information reads: “contains almonds, peanuts and soy. May contain tree nuts. May contain nut shell fragments.” KIND’s page does not print a vegan claim for this bar, and honey is in the list.

Recipes and facilities change, and KIND’s own page asks shoppers to “refer to the product label for the most accurate nutrition, ingredient, and allergen information”. If you have a food allergy or celiac disease, read the wrapper every time and ask your doctor or a registered dietitian which assurance you need.

How to choose between them

  1. Most protein per bar. Of these three, RXBAR lists the most, 12 g.
  2. 0 g added sugars on the panel. Only RXBAR lists 0 g. Larabar and KIND each list 4 g.
  3. Shortest list. Larabar has four ingredients, RXBAR eight and KIND fourteen.
  4. Most fiber. KIND lists 7 g, the most of the three.
  5. No egg or honey. RXBAR lists egg whites and KIND lists honey. Larabar’s list has neither, and Larabar labels this flavor vegan.
  6. Peanuts. Larabar and KIND list peanuts as ingredients, and RXBAR says its bar may contain peanuts. By our reading of the three labels, none of them is a peanut-free bar.
